How To Actually Get Free Internet

Freedom Pop

Haven’t heard of Freedom Pop? Then you are definitely missing out!

Missing out on savings!

Freedom Pop is a wireless internet and mobile provider. They are based in Los Angeles and they strongly believe that everyone should have access to internet in the modern world we live in. But hey don’t just share their views, they do their absolute best to make sure people have access to internet.

Like I said before they are a mobile provider and they offer talk, text, and data plans starting at $0.00/month. No, I didn’t make a mistake it really is $0.00.

There are a few different option available to you depending on the services you are wanting, and your needs.

How it works is you go ahead and purchase a phone and sign up for your device plan when you check out. Then you will be mailed your phone, once you receive it you will have to download their messaging application before you can begin with the service.

Freedom Pop uses a cellular service called VoIP, and they use a data connection to power your calls and texts.

Your device will receive signals from network towers that are close to them, but they are powered by different and larger networks.

WifiMap

You can explain this tool much better than the name already does. It is 100% exactly how it sounds – it is a map of Wifi spots! Like many other free internet options WifiMap is an app that you download to your smartphone and it gives you access to tons of places you can get free Wifi.

How it works is users upload the Wifi spots so that others can also use the Wifi spots when they’re in the same area. It is bound to only expand from here. It is a crowd sourcing economy that will continue to grow as more and more people learn about it share it with family and friends.

A cool fact about WifiMap is there are well over 100 million free wifi options. The app shows both a map and a list with passwords you can use so you can get connected.

Using the app is simple.

  1. You download the app
  2. Search your area for locations
  3. Choose the one you want

A great feature of WifiMap is if the connection you are on is crappy you can just disconnect and try out another one!

If you are scteched out about this and are unsure about using it then you’ll probably feel better knowing that it has been featured on CNN, and Forbes just to name a few and put your mind at ease.

NetZero

They have been around for some time now, 1998 to be exact and you can tell this by the fact that they still use dial-up connections.

And while that was only a year after I was born I still remember using dial up playing on the computer at my grandparents in the early 2000’s when I was 4/5 years old. Having to wait for the connection seemed like forever, and it always sounded like it was working very hard. And it always sucked when my games stopped because the phone rang.

This is a key for scoring free internet though, you will need to have a home phone line in your home.

NetZero can’t really compare to Freedom Pop with their usage availability, which is sad. With NetZero you will only get 10 free house of internet for free each month – but, there are paid plan available if you’d like to increase your amount.

If you aren’t someone that uses a ton of internet then this could be a great option for you! Nobody wants to spend money on something they rarely use?

Wifi Free Spot

Wifi Free Spot is very similar to WifiMap. This is because Wifi Free Spot is a directory that lists all of your local free Wifi hotspots for you to chose from.

They list the Wifi hotsposts on a state by state basis, however, they also have specialized listings. For example:

  • Larger companies
  • Accommodations (Hotels, Motels, Resorts)
  • Airports
  • RV parks
  • Vacation rentals

InstaBridge

InstaBridge is actually a really cool app. Once you download it to your smartphone it can conveniently give you the passwords for Wifi spots while you’re on the go.

InstaBridge was not originally created for this purpose. I was actually created as a way to share your home Wifi with your friends on Facebook. But, very quickly it became a larger Wifi sharing company.

What it does is show you the places you are nearest to that have free Wifi available. The app is incredibly accurate and automatically connects you to the networks that work, so you don’t have to waste your time with the ones that don’t.

InstaBridge has been loyal to their initial mission to make it easier to share your Wifi password with friends. Which is why they make it possible for you to list your own home Wifi to share with your friends and family. This saves you the time consuming trouble of having to dig up your password when company comes over.

All Free ISP

All Free ISP is a website that simply stores a database full of free internet access service providers. You find the ones near you by entering your state/province as well as your local area code.

Once you fill out that info you will then see your options of the free/cheap internet providers available to you. They also make it easy for you to chose a quality provider by showing ratings for each of the free ISP. Which allows you to easily compare.

Use Free Wifi In Coffee Shops

Clearly this is an incredibly obvious choice, but it is something that is easily forgotten about.

So many times I have heard in my Facebook groups that people are panicking because their internet is down. Which is an incredibly difficult position to be in when you work from home and have to be productive. But, a quick, and easy solution is to go down to your local coffee shop grab a cup of coffee and get back to work!

Get in your car and drive yourself down to the nearest Starbucks or locally owned cafe, and hook up your laptop to the Wifi. Personally, this is something I have taken advantage of in the past and likely will again.

It is also a great option if you just need a change of scenery from working at home day in and day out. For me it gave me a reason to get dressed in “work clothes” and do myself up a bit instead of plopping on the couch.

While you’re their you could even make a habit of making some money while using the internet. You can get paid to watch videos, take a few surveys, or by going onto some popular apps that save you money

Check With Your Internet Service Provider

Many of the major internet service providers offer extremely cheap or free internet packages. Meaning you may be able to score some “free” internet by bundling multiple services, such as your TV and phone.

This may not be a completely free option, however you will likely be able to get a low-priced internet package that gives you everything you need with a very reasonable and small price tag. You will have to ask for these plans because they are not advertised or offered up unless you ask your provider specifically for a cheaper internet option.

Use Your Phones Hotspot

I have used this option a TON! And it works slick!

Using my phones hotspot is one of my go to’s if I happen to lose internet at home and have to get on for work.

Basically using your phones hotspot is using it as a wireless router. You simply just have to turn on the hotspot feature on your smart phone, and connect it to your laptop or other devices that are nearby.

Warning though if you are using this option then you will using the data from your phones data plan so I would use this cautiously so you don’t go over your data limit. Other wise this option won’t be free.

Talk To Your Neighbors

Obviously this is dependent on the kind of relationship you have with your neighbors, or if you have one at all. If you do decide to ask just know it doesn’t have to be an uncomfortable conversation.

Make it a fair trade by offering up something appealing.

For example you could ask for their Wifi password in exchange for something they need help. You could offer to do something they don’t want to around the house or maybe you’d just like to keep things simple by offering to pay a portion of their internet bill (its a win, win because you save money and so do they.)

I would definitely give a lot of consideration to how you would ask your neighbor. Maybe think of how you’d react if one of your neighbors asked you? They reason you should really consider how you bring it up is because it could be a shocking request.

Depending on your neighbor it may be smart to offer up cost sharing right off the bat instead of just asking to use their internet for free!

Go To Your Local Library

Personally, I like taking advantage of this free internet option during the colder winter months. It is a great way to get out of the house when there isn’t a lost to do. I grab a coffee or tea and will go work on my blog for an afternoon.

Sometimes my husband will even come with me as a way for us both to take advantage of this free internet option.
